Enjoying time off...

I have been catching up on everyone's blogs and thinking about what the new year will bring. 

 I was making this jacket and only got to the paper piecing of the compass for the back done. Now looking at it I like the colors, but don't think the style is something that I would ever wear. So I am going to make the compass into a block in a sampler quilt. All the rest of the fabrics will go to making the other blocks.

 I signed up for this BOM at the Stitchin Heaven and it starts in May 2011.

 I signed up for this BOM at Jeff's sewing and Vacuum Shop in Augusta, GA. It starts mid January. (this was a gift from my DH this Christmas)

So far 2011 is looking like a fun , but very busy year.

Have you started planning what you will be doing in 2011? 

Snow in the South...

We got a little dusting of snow last night and since our high temperature today was 42, it was gone by noon. It is still cold, but not icy.

Thought that I would share some of the books and patterns that I got during the Christmas sales. Lots of new projects for the new year. 

 I'm thinking of making a baby quilt first from Tonya's book.

5 more shopping days till Christmas!

These are the gifts that I received at the exchange with my Quilting bee friends last Thursday. They are all Awesome Women!

It was a very busy week and now it is almost Christmas, time to spend time with Family.

While I was gone my list of Followers has grown to 75. To celebrate this I am going to do a giveaway. So stop back on Wednesday Dec.22nd to see what I come up with. I'll get some input from Chipper!

I will be baking cookies with my MIL, SIL, and Daughters on Monday. Tuesday we are having a new heater + air conditioner installed to take advantage of the tax rebate for 2010.

Busy week ahead

I am almost ready for the Christmas rush. This week all of my Girlfriend celebration parties take place. So I will be posting more after Thursday.

It has been colder than normal here, so we are trying to stay warm.

This is the ornaments that I have been working on and hope to have 17 finished by December 16th.

Productive Saturday

Unfortunately I did not take a before picture, but believe me the flower beds were full of grass and weeds. We purchased at our Church's fall fundraiser a day of gardening offered by one of the Adult Sunday school classes. So we had them remove all of the rose bushes,day lilies, weeds and grass from the front flower beds.Now the beds are ready for us to redo this spring with a low maintenance set of plants. So my day was spent supervising and helping clean up our garden.

100 Block and 100 Cookies

The binding is on my scrap quilt, yea! It turned out 86"x103"

Here's a close up so you can see the binding and quilting.

This is the scrappy back. The problem fabric was the two brown pieces. The straight of grain was not the length of the piece, so they stretched and puckered when machine quilted. From afar you can't notice and after I wash the quilt I think it will be less noticeable.

I was out yesterday buying supplies to finish projects that I am working on for Christmas Presents and found these two magazines. I am studying these so that mid December I can make some cookies. I think that cookies and quilt blocks go well together!

Glad to be Home

It was very cold in Ohio when we left. The temperature makes me appreciate the warmth of the South.

This is my mother's cat Lily. She was good company while we sewed.

This was one of the quilt shops that my Mother took me to. It is run by Mennonite Ladies and is located near Kent,Ohio. Very small, but had lots of fun fabrics and patterns.

The rulers came from the shop in Kent and the reproduction fabric came from The Good Wife's Club in Marion.

 I picked up a cute book and fabric to go in a barn quit at the shop in Kent.

This is a scrap quilt that my Mom's friend quilted for me. It has a scrappy back that gave her trouble, issues with the straight of grain made one piece pucker while the rest laid flat and smooth. So she was not happy with the quilting, but it is only a scrap quilt that will be used not shown in a quilt show. She gave me a gift of some cat fabric that I love. I also love how the quilt came out. Now I just have to decide, red or blue binding?

Friday night sew-in!

 My DH and I went to a Lyle Lovett concert last night in North Charleston, SC. We stayed over night and really enjoyed Lyle and his Large band.

I started the Friday night sew-in by printing out Bonnie Hunter's first clue and sewing some of the pinks and greens from my scrap bag together. I'm not sure if I am going to like these, but I was able to get 100 units made.

Next I worked on my Lisa's garden BOM. I was able to make the first two sets of nine patches. Since we are leaving tomorrow for our trip to Ohio for Thanksgiving, I will have to do the eight wool applique blocks when I get back home.

Quilt top done!

My tree blocks are now all sewn together, I think that for a cuddly lap throw I need to find some red minke. So this one will not get finished until next year.

A stop at the Antique Shop yielded a couple of good finds for me. The first was this gold bowl that replaces one that I had for years. The old one was recently broken and I missed it dearly. I looked and looked for a new one to replace it but could not find a current bowl that was the same size. So yesterday while Downtown I decided to take a look in the Antique Shop. Now I have an exact replacement, yea!

 For good measure I also picked up this white one. They were a bargain as I got both for less than $20.

Christmas Quilt-a-long!

So far I have gotten a lot of prep work done.

I've been making the 1/4" double fold bias tape for making the snowflakes that I am making to exchange with friends this Christmas. Our exchange is December 16th!

This is a purse that now is all cut out and ready to assemble for my Mother. I am planning on delivering it to her at Thanksgiving. This is the project that I will finish tonight right after I finish making and eating dinner. Come back later and I will post a picture of the finished Margo Bag.

By the wee hours of Sunday morning, I finished the Margo bag!
Now I am off to bed......

PIF gifts have all arrived!

I just got the word today that the last of my three PIF gifts has finally arrived to it's destination. So now I can show what I sent.

Bonnie has received the butterfly Margo bag in Flordia.

Arlette has received the Flower Margo bag in Costa Rica.

Gina has received the Kitty Margo bag in England.

This was the first exchange I participated in and I think it was a success and hope to do it again, maybe in 2011. What do you think about doing some sort of exchange in 2011?

This is Judy from my quilt guild explaining how she constructs her T-shirt and her denim quilts. She also makes pot holders , walker bags, and many many other items for friends, family and charity out of old denim jeans. 

Her friend Susan helped with the program and they are planning to host a sew what to focus on t-shirt quilt making after the first of the year.

Trees up...

And the blocks are almost all sewn.

For the last two blocks I am going to leave them partially assembled, so that my students can see how I did them. Today I will finish trimming and assembling all but the last row of tree blocks.
