New Applique Book

I now know why I like to piece better than applique. It's because I get faster results when piecing. Yesterday I finally found inspiration for the applique on my star quilt. Boy applique sure does take a lot of preparation. This book spoke to me for the quilt I have been working on....

I have gotten bogged down with all the preparation....

First I had to read the book and plan in my head what I wanted to put on my quilt borders.

I found that I just loved the borders on this wall hanging in the book. Then as I read the directions I learned that I had to get the immage from the pattern sheet inlarged by 50%. Meaning I had to go to the copy store and convince them to copy it for me onto bigger paper and luckily the Authors put in writting on the pattern sheet their permission for the copy store to print a copy for me. Otherwise they told me that it was copyrighted material and they would not make a copy for me. That done, now I am tracing off the layout for my boarders onto paper and then onto steam-a-seam2 so I can then adhere it to the fabric I want to applique. Once that is done then I can do the machine applique......whew!

While at the LQS I saw this jacket made up and just had to get the pattern to make one. I'll be using a navey blue sweatshirt for the jacket base.
Now it's back to the tedious applique prep.........Marj

I have now finished the center of the quilt and all of the bird blocks for one of the outer borders.

Tomorrow I am going to try to add the applique to the top and bottom, so this quilt will become rectangular. Now it's off to sleep I go............Marj
